Cool Video

I just happened to be squandering some fantastic NaNo writing time when I found this YouTube video. I love it.

Western Steampunk music fun. Just the sort of thing to make you want to read The Legend of Little Sharpshooter, right?

Free Ebooks!

52 Books you can try for FREE

I almost goofed that link up. But you can find High Pressure System Part One for free in this list.

Also on Nov 3rd- 7th you can get High Pressure System Part Two for free as well. So why not. Get them both.

Part Three is regular price and I’m hard at work on Part Four. It is coming along.

NaNoWriMo started yesterday. I’ve won 2 out of 3 Novembers. I’ve won the Camp NaNo’s every time. It has helped produce multiple scenes for several of the books in The Children of Dragons, I wrote The Legend of Little Sharpshooter, Into the Woods, and Gypsy Girl all during NaNoWriMo.

Last year I knew it would be a fight. I bombed. But it is responsible for getting me into a daily writing habit and I need that boost right now. I have lots of words to get out of my head. The more I write, the easier it gets. If only the D key wasn’t so hard to use.

High Pressure System Part Three

It was a cram fest. Once I got High Pressure System Part Three finished and uploaded on Amazon, my website wasn’t working, my laptop wasn’t cooperating, and it was very difficult to get any information out that it was live. People are finding it though. It has some serious sad bits but there are some funny parts too. It was easier to blend that sort of thing together because the story is more established and it is also longer than the first two. For some reason that opened things up for me. Because of the length, it is $1.99 instead of $0.99 like the first two.

High Pressure System Part Three on Amazon

I was very excited and motivated when there was a third 5 star review for Part Two that was asking me to hurry up. Thanks for the kick in the pants! It really did help.

Part Four is on my task list now and that is what will be coming out next. Crossing my fingers for a late October release. Or early November if I can’t get it together. Nanowrimo (National Novel Writing Month takes place in November) might stall the editing for the second book in The Children of Dragons series.  Now what to write in November?

October is Here

So the September Celebration didn’t have everything I had hoped to celebrate but it was a great month. All my books have great reviews on Amazon now. Today I checked Goodreads and two books there have 5 stars. I’m really happy today because October is already off to a good start. That is always motivating.

This whole indie publish thing has so much to it and I’m still learning. It is terribly distracting while I try to write new content. High Pressure System is coming along. I do have Part Three in rough draft. I’m working it through to the end though before I polish it up for release. That means the next part will come very soon after the third. I believe there will be 4 parts to the first season. Depends on how long it gets. Those two parts will be longer than the first two.

September Celebration

I might have mentioned that September is my birthday month. Last September was one of the worst months I’ve ever had. I even wound up in the ER for myself for the first time in my life.

So to make this one the best yet, I’m celebrating. I released Book One to my fantasy series on September 1st. The Children of Dragons:Awakening. I really adore Robin and Raven, the two main characters in this story. It is a get to know them book while they discover a lot about themselves. Book Two begins their journey. I have that complete but after I looked through it when Book One was almost done, I realized it has a ways to go before it is in book form and ready to publish. In the meantime, the book has been downloaded in the UK. It will be $0.99 until October 1st and then it will go up to $2.99

At the moment, The Legend of Little Sharpshooter has been on sale for $0.99. It has picked up momentum and was #6 in Young Adult Westerns. Sandwiched between two well-known books-Shane and True Grit. I would comp this book to True Grit so that was a compliment. Now if things will keep going well until the sale ends September 15th.

I’m hard at work on High Pressure System Part Three. I really want to get this out this month too and when we are ready to release, Part One and Part Two will be free for a few days.

So there is the September Celebration run-down. Lots to do and exciting things happening.

Here’s hoping the momentum builds and we have a celebratory time all month long. My birthday is the last day of the month so that would be a great way to celebrate.

The Children of Dragons:Awakening Release

September is my birthday month. I’ve decided to celebrate all month long. I hope to have sales and freebies later in the month but to start out with, my new book has released today.

I was so excited to find this cover. I found one that I though was going to be for book one but it is now assigned to book two. When I was editing this, I realized a good half of it is Raven’s story. That cover looks a lot like Raven. He has the most growth in Awakening and his story is very touching. This book is a good introduction to the world that Robin and Raven live in. You get to know their family and with all the crisis and challenges they face, their love for their family is what you get to experience with them.

The Children of Dragons Awakening on Amazon now

At the moment it is only available on Amazon. This one will eventually be available at Barnes and Noble and in paperback.

Right now though, I should be packing to go out of town.

So as I wade through this pool of information on how to make something happen with my latest writing endeavors, I’m making some new connections with fellow authors. I really appreciate the hard work and the helpfulness from those that are trying to do what I am.

Author R.A. Marshall has a blog post featuring some Apocalypse and Post Apocalypse YA stories. High Pressure System is on the list. If nothing there floats your boat, and you’ve already read High Pressure System, go read the Author Bio. It is highly entertaining all by itself.

Visit the Ninja Writer Blog for something new to read.

In the meantime, the editing goes on…Cover reveal coming soon.

Welcome to my Website’s New Home

A little forewarning- I’m writing this blog post with a mild migraine it is making for some interesting typos. I’ve been proofreading as I go but that doesn’t mean I caught them all. I am the self-declared queen of typos.

My blog looks the same. But it has a new home. I went from KDKinneyauthor.Wordpress.com to here KDKinney.com. I couldn’t be happier. I just have to remember the new address correctly. I changed it in a few places last night and realized I didn’t take “author” off and, yeah, that doesn’t bring you here.

So as I navigate trying to build my business as an author, there are so many little extras to learn about and line out. At least we are at the tail end of summer vacation and I’ve had time this week to just really try to figure it out. So I have to thank my Bro-in-Law for creating my domain name and moving my website and blog here. He did a great job.

Mailing list creation is next now that I have my email for that. I might write some special content to give away for sign-ups. Perhaps a prequel to The Children of Dragons and a Short Story that ties in to The Legend of Little Sharpshooter based on how Randy earned Pearl, her revolver. Or one on how she earned Al’s trust. Hmm… New things to think about.

I’ve also been working on more editing. I am more than halfway through Awakening: The Children of Dragons. I’m so immersed in educating myself on the business and marketing aspects that new content is still on hold. I can’t wait to get into High Pressure System 3.

The fair is this week. My banner is a picture I took last year for Gypsy Girl inspiration. I might try to get more pictures to use for a cover for Gypsy Girl.  I need to rewrite it from 3rd person to 1st. It’s a fun contemporary Young Adult novel with a love triangle with the potential for sequels.

Once the kids are back in school, I’ll have my daytime hours for uninterrupted writing time. That is until Oliver the cat decides it’s time to get attention by jumping on my chest and rubbing my face with his. He’s a weird one.

Here’s a novel that’s not mine that I’m reading right now. It’s by a writing buddy and I haven’t finished reading it yet, but she deserves all the help she can get. Her book was just featured as a Pitch Perfect Pick on Underground Books like mine.  She’s 79 today so here is a little feature for her birthday:

Staying Alive by Dorothy Piper A Middle Grade Novel with Sci-fi elements.

In the meantime, happy reading.

5 Star review!

It is exciting when you find another review and it is 5 stars! Super happy with that.

There’s a new Widget in my sidebar. If you are looking at my site on a phone or Kindle it is probably at the very bottom. It is a promotional website that I just joined to gain exposure for my books. If you would like to shop for something new to read while you wait for my latest release- 😉  you might want to hop over there and check it out.

As far as the mailing list goes- I’ve hit 2 snafus. So it will take me a little longer to get that going. This is the kids last week before school starts so there’s a little Last Hurrah going on this week and then I get busy on the writing and editing again.
